Wayne McClung, a Western Kentucky University sophomore from Lexington, Ky., practices weekly with his bandmates as the singer of the heavy metal band, Treazon. McClung, a creative writing major, also writes lyrics for the band's songs.

McClung writes lyrics on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2024, at WKU's Downing Student Union in Bowling Green, Ky. McClung said the first time he wrote lyrics was after a breakup when he was 16 years old. "I started out by just venting on a page and making stuff rhyme," McClung said.

"Eventually, I found out that I had a much rangier voice than him," McClung said. "I could hit notes that were higher than him, while also hitting notes that were lower than him."

"My dad used to play 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and 'Miss You' by The Rolling Stones in the car," McClung said. "He told me to get some rock and roll, and I got 'Walk This Way' by Aerosmith because it was on a Disney Infinity commercial. And I bought it, put the earbuds in my ears and just started jumping around the second it started playing."

"After that (the two shows as fill-in singer), they showed me some of the stuff they were working on, and I just stayed in the band because it was nice having work," McClung said.
